A Tennessee LLC - even one with a single member, and unlike a plain sole proprietorship - owes two taxes on one return, the FAE-170, due April 15 for a calendar year. Franchise tax: 0.25% of net worth, but never less than $100, whether the LLC did anything that year or not. Excise tax: 6.5% of net earnings, after a $50,000 deduction. Late: 5% of the tax for each 30 days or part, up to 25%.
Apart from the tax, the LLC files an annual report with the Secretary of State by April 1 (the first day of the fourth month after its year ends): $50 for each member, at least $300 and at most $3,000. A report left unfiled can end in administrative dissolution.
