Every employee - dancers on the payroll, bartenders, security, crew - completes Section 1 of Form I-9 no later than the first day of work. The employer completes Section 2 within three business days of that first day, after seeing the documents. Where E-Verify is used, the case is created by the third business day too. When an employee's work authorization has an end date, it is reverified before it runs out. Hirebook keeps the dates and the case number, never the documents or their numbers.
An I-9 is kept for three years after the date of hire or one year after the employee leaves, whichever is later - and may be destroyed after that. Several states require private employers to use E-Verify: Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi and South Carolina for all employers; Georgia above 10 employees; Florida and North Carolina at 25; Tennessee at 35; Utah at 150. Florida counts employees everywhere, not only in the state.
