Chicago's Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance covers anyone who works at least 80 hours in any 120-day period while physically in Chicago - dancers on the payroll, bartenders, door staff, part-timers. Enter each week's hours worked in the city; Leavebook works out who is covered and what each has earned.
Each covered worker earns one hour of Paid Leave and one hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 35 hours worked, up to 40 hours of each a year - or the employer may frontload 40 of each at the start of the year. Paid Sick Leave can be used from the 30th day of work and Paid Leave from the 90th. Up to 16 hours of Paid Leave (none if frontloaded) and 80 hours of Paid Sick Leave carry over. When someone leaves, an employer with more than 50 covered employees pays out their unused Paid Leave; sick leave is never paid out. Nobody is asked why they took Paid Leave.
