Maine employers with 15 or more employees train every new employee within one year of hire. The training covers that sexual harassment is illegal; its definition under state and federal law; a description with examples; the internal complaint process; the legal recourse and complaint process through the Maine Human Rights Commission; how to contact the Commission; and the protection against retaliation. Supervisors and managers get additional training within one year of taking the role, on their particular responsibilities and the ways to address complaints. Every employee is given an individual written notice each year, and the training records are kept at least three years.
