Granary SEP-IRA Contribution Planner
For self-employed dancers, creators and performers

Put away the most you can. Not a dollar over.

Granary works out your SEP-IRA limit the way IRS Publication 560 does - profit, self-employment tax, half of it off, 20% of what is left, up to the cap - shows the tax it saves, and keeps every deposit inside the limit and the deadline.

Opens in this browser with an invented dancer already in it. No account, no email address, nothing installed. Never holds a Social Security number, a brokerage login or a bank account.

The problem

The 25% is not 25% of your profit.

Self-employed, you are your own employer: the SEP-IRA's 25% becomes about 20% of your net profit after half your self-employment tax, and the cap for 2026 is $72,000. Put in too much and the excess is taxed every year it stays.

$72,000

the 2026 SEP-IRA cap, up from $70,000.

Collective →
About 20%

of net profit after the half self-employment tax deduction - the effective rate for the self-employed.

SoFi →
$360,000

the most pay counted toward a 2026 contribution.

Parker Poe →

Will not let a deposit go over.

Not a reminder. A contribution is refused over the year's limit, before the year begins, after its deadline, or in the future. A year's profit cannot be revised below what is already in. Limits are refused without a source. Nothing is deleted.

Questions

The ones we actually get asked

Why not 25% of my profit?

Because you are the employer too: the 25% is figured on profit after the contribution itself and half your self-employment tax, which works out to 20% of profit less half the SE tax.

When is the last day?

The return's due date, extensions included - April 15, or October 15 if you filed an extension.

Does it lower my self-employment tax?

No - income tax only. Self-employment tax is worked on your profit before the contribution.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is the arithmetic and the record.

What do I actually get when I pay?

The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, on your screen as soon as the payment confirms: the checkout brings you back to our thank-you page, you type your business name and the key appears. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.

The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
