Brownstone NYC Safe & Sick Time Ledger
For New York City clubs and venues

40 hours or 56. Your headcount decides.

Brownstone counts your peak headcount nationwide, applies the right tier, works out each worker's safe and sick time from their hours in the city, and gives you the line every pay statement needs.

Opens in this browser with an invented club already in it. No account, no email address, nothing installed. Never holds the reason for an absence, a medical note or a Social Security number.

The problem

The tier moves with the payroll.

NYC's Earned Safe and Sick Time Act gives 40 hours at 5 to 99 employees and 56 at 100 or more - counted nationwide at the year's peak. Every pay statement shows accrued, used and available. Paperwork only after three days out.

56 hours

a year at 100 or more employees; 40 at 5 to 99.

Blank Rome →
Nationwide

headcount at the year's peak decides the tier - not just the club.

Greenberg Traurig →
3 days

out before an employer may ask for documentation.

Greenberg Traurig →

Will not shortchange a worker.

Not a reminder. Time is refused past the balance or the yearly limit, and documentation is refused for an absence of three days or fewer. The year's peak headcount cannot be lowered until next year. Nothing is deleted. There is no override.

How it works

Headcount, hours, time off

Set the peak

The most employees at once this year, nationwide.

Enter the hours

Each worker's week in the city - one hour per 30.

Record time off

Checked against the balance, the limit and the paperwork rule.

What it will never do

It keeps the hours. Never the reasons.

Brownstone holds hours and dates, nothing more.

No reasons for absences.Safe time and sick time are nobody's business.
No medical notes.Nothing is uploaded.
No Social Security numbers.Payroll already has them.
It is not legal advice. The city's own rules are the reference.

Questions

The ones we actually get asked

We have 30 staff at the club but 120 across all our venues.

Size is counted nationwide, so you are a 56-hour employer.

Is there a waiting period?

Not since the 2023 rules. Time is earned and usable from the first day.

Can we ask for a doctor's note?

Only for an absence of more than three consecutive workdays, and only if your written policy says so.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is the record and the gates.

What do I actually get when I pay?

The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, on your screen as soon as the payment confirms: the checkout brings you back to our thank-you page, you type your business name and the key appears. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.

The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
