Handcard Food Handler Card Tracker
For California clubs with a kitchen or bar staff who pour or handle food

Bartenders need one now. And you pay for it.

Handcard tracks every bartender's, server's and cook's food handler card from hire to expiry, records that the club paid, and refuses to put anyone on shift past the deadline without one.

Opens in this browser with an invented club already in it. No account, no email address, nothing installed. Never holds a card scan, a test score or a Social Security number.

The problem

Thirty days goes fast on a busy bar.

SB 602 brought bartenders and drink pourers under California's food handler card. Each needs one within 30 days of hire - 10 in San Diego County - and since 2024 the club pays for the card and the training time.

Will not put an uncarded pourer on shift.

Not a reminder. Sign onto the shift refuses anyone who handles food or pours past the deadline without a valid card. A card is refused unless the club paid the fee and the training time. There is no "must already hold a card" box, because the law forbids it. Nothing is deleted.

How it works

Hire, card, shift

Add the hire

Their role decides whether a card is needed; the deadline is worked out.

Record the card

The date, the fee and the training hours the club paid.

Sign in the shift

Checked against the deadline and the expiry.

What it will never do

It keeps the dates. Never the test.

Handcard holds roles, card dates and what was paid, nothing more.

No card scans.Nothing is uploaded.
No test scores.Passed is passed.
No Social Security numbers.Payroll already has them.
It is not legal advice.Your county health office is the reference.

Questions

The ones we actually get asked

Do bartenders really need a food handler card?

Yes. SB 602 covers bartenders and anyone who pours drinks, along with waitstaff, cooks, bussers and hosts who handle food.

Who pays for it?

The club - the card, the training, the test and the time spent on them, since January 1, 2024.

Can we hire only people who already have one?

No. The law forbids making an existing card a condition of the job.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is the record and the gates.

What do I actually get when I pay?

The demo on this page is the whole program, running on invented records. Paying gets you a licence key — one line of text, on your screen as soon as the payment confirms: the checkout brings you back to our thank-you page, you type your business name and the key appears. Paste it into the program and from then on it keeps your own records. Until then, nothing you type into it is kept.

The key is checked inside the page, on your own machine. It never calls us, so there is still no account and nothing about your business goes anywhere. If you ever stop paying, your records stay exactly where they are, read-only, and Export still hands you every one of them.
